As WordPress Designers we have been really fortunate to be a part of the Utah WordPress community. In fact we have had the chance to attend 2 great events this month.
Last we we attended Salt Lake City WordPress meet up. As usual we learned tons!
George Ortiz showed us how PressTrends is helping plugin and theme developers take the guess work out of making the best for the WordPress Community. Press Trends gathers the tons of data on what we, as WordPress designers and users are doing with the themes we have downloaded. And which plugins we are taking advantage of. This data will help the theme and plugin developers come up with what we really need for our sites.
Plus A PressTrend WordPress Plugin for You
“We’re really excited to announce the release of our new plugin for WordPress. This plugin extends the PressTrends platform to blogs and content creators around the world and allows them to get insights into how their sites are performing against the community.
Currently, the plugin features metrics for posts, comments, and plugins and shows the comparison vs. the community. We’re already closing in on our next release for the plugin that will feature additional insights and more drilled-down metrics.
You can learn more about the plugin here or download it from the WordPress Plugin Directory.” Geroge Ortiz
SEO Ethics @ Utah Valley University
Earlier this month Kathy was lucky enough to attend the SEO Ethics event. Ash Buckles, President of SEO.com (right here in Utah!) presented a first hand look at White Hat SEO vs. Black Hat SEO.
Although black hat SEO techniques may be very tempting, they do not pay off in the end.
Black hat techniques are hard to clean up. Recently we had a client buy some black hat services for his YouTube channel and the channel was shut down with out any warning. Hours and hours of video were lost. Friends and connections were lost.
The search engines have not made it a secret. They tell you exactly what is OK and what is not.
So what does work? It just might surprise you.

P.S. We will also keep you updated on what is happening in Utah for WordPress Designers and Users.
