Social Media Checklist For Small Businesses: Infographic

If you remember Social Media is at the top of the SEO pyramid. It is also the area that is the hardest for small businesses to put into action.

I have found this great checklist, it is such a simple plan to follow. Actually a plan like this is would not be very time consuming, once you have all of the Social Media set up. But the really sensible thing for a small business would be to use only the social media your target customers are using. And only use the social media you are will to put into action.

Notice how your blog is the foundation of your Social Media plan. Read More→

Slow Down The Bounce Rate | Engage Your WordPress Readers

Keeping your WordPress website updated increases your security as well as the function of your site.  Yes, I know it seems that updates are required a little too often, but that’s because users, like you and me, find bugs or problems and pass that information on to Automattic, where the WordPress team reviews issues and makes the corrections.

This is just one of the advantages of WordPress being an open source format.  It allows everyone to help make it better and better…. which of course… is great for all of us.

Along with keeping the back end of your site updated, it’s good to review the front end of your site and consider keeping it fresh also.  Of course, that doesn’t mean you need to update it as frequently as your WordPress updates but, a good yearly review would be a great idea.

Trends and colors change.  It hasn’t been too long ago that front pages were pretty static looking.  Now, many exciting features are available.  There is hardly an updated website that does not include a slider, a carousel or some other moving feature on the front page to draw attention.  Lots of  images are a must.

Utah WordPress Designers and Users Have A Great WordPress Community

As WordPress Designers we have been really fortunate to be a part of the Utah WordPress community. In fact we have had the chance to attend 2 great events this month.

Last we we attended Salt Lake City WordPress meet up.  As usual we learned tons!

George Ortiz showed us how PressTrends is helping plugin and theme developers take the guess work out of making the best for the WordPress Community. Press Trends gathers the tons of data on what we, as WordPress designers and users are doing with the themes we have downloaded. And which plugins we are taking advantage of. This data will help the theme and plugin developers come up with what we really need for our sites.

Plus A PressTrend WordPress Plugin for You

“We’re really excited to announce the release of our new plugin for WordPress. This plugin extends the PressTrends platform to blogs and content creators around the world and allows them to get insights into how their sites are performing against the community.

Currently, the plugin features metrics for posts, comments, and plugins and shows the comparison vs. the community. We’re already closing in on our next release for the plugin that will feature additional insights and more drilled-down metrics.

You can learn more about the plugin here or download it from the WordPress Plugin Directory.” Geroge Ortiz Read More→

WordPress Lightbox Plugin Doubles As A WordPress Slideshow

I was starting feel like a failure when ever I went looking for a WordPress Lightbox plugin. Then I hit the jackpot with a WordPress Lightbox plugin that was also a WordPress Slideshow. The really big pay off came when I found that it was easy to install, easy to run and easy for uploading WordPress images. Whoot-whoot, a plugin that is just my style.

Yes, there is more! It is free.

You want your images to work! by that I mean you want your images to take your readers some where when they click on them. It could be to another page related to your post or it could be the perfect enlargement of your picture. That is where a lightbox comes in.

When we did the Utah Web Design for MilagrosUtah.com, I found a picture that just had to have a lightbox effect. Luckily I found a lightbox for WordPress that I did not have to spend hours trying to figure out.

Check this out and see what I mean… Read More→

WordPress Meet Up In Salt Lake City

There is no doubt in my mind that Utah is the perfect place for WordPress Designers. The WordPress community here is absolutely fabulous.

When we first started learning WordPress we would meet every month with the WordPress Geek Club. And we have grown to love WordPress for it’s ease of use and because the platform has grown from being a great way to blog to any type of site you can imagine.

Now the group is meeting again, thanks to the efforts of Dustin Nay.

Last Thursday we packed up our computers and questions to attend the WP SLC Meet-up. As usual we came home with the answers we needed.

Matt of Store Front Themes gave a great explanation of the best plugins for eCommerce sites. He compared WP e-Commerce, JigoShop, Woo eCommerce, Cart66, Market Press and Gravity Forms. Read More→
